This gate may not look like much, but that's exactly why it's here. This exacting customer with a unique aesthetic of rustic simplicity knew exactly what she wanted: a pair of gates right up against the neighbor's fence, but without touching it, built with reclaimed lumber, that would stay open minimal hardware.
This gate, or rather the gatepost, was the solution. By using 4" channel iron set in concrete as the post, we made a dynamic gate system that temporarily bends just enough when opened to hang down, and therefore remain open in either direction. When pushed to the center, the steel posts flex back to vertical and dead level. Here you see the left hand gate hanging open in the uphill position.
This garden gate is a carpenter's whimsy made of reclaimed lumber, with giant sawblade in the center and unique, handmade steel hinges.
