This is one of a pair of desktops we made for a customer's walnut-themed office. The material is "white walnut," aka butternut or juglans cinerea, which we polished to an extremely high sheen (400 grit) before finishing with a spray-on conversion varnish. The office has a walnut floor and walnut ceiling, both of which we installed.
About fifty woodworkers from the Brown County Woodworking Club came to the shop where we were building these desks, so all told we may have had a thousand years of woodworking experience in the room, and nobody complained about the quality of our work. :-)
